Curriculum

#Lesson
01

Presentation & Recording of Test Results

How MPI indications and test outcomes are presented and recorded — required fields, format conventions and traceability to the test piece.

02

Acceptance Criteria

Reading and applying acceptance criteria from codes and specifications to classify indications as acceptable or rejectable.

03

Reporting, Location & Preservation of Records

Marking indication location on the part, formal report content, and how long inspection records must be preserved per code requirements.

04

Demagnetization & Reasons

Why parts are demagnetized after MPI — effects of residual magnetism on machining, welding, instruments and in-service performance.

05

Reasons — Demagnetization NOT Required

Situations where demagnetization can be safely skipped — material, geometry, end-use and downstream-process considerations.

06

Demagnetization Methods

AC, DC reversing, coil pass-through and heat-above-Curie methods of demagnetization, and how to choose between them.

07

Measuring Residual Magnetism

Using a residual field indicator / Hall-effect gauss meter to verify residual magnetism is below the specified limit (typically 3 G / 240 A/m).

08

Safety Precautions

Electrical, chemical, UV-light and material-handling safety precautions for MPI operators — PPE and exposure limits.

09

Advantages of MT

Key advantages of Magnetic Particle Testing over other surface NDT methods — speed, cost, sensitivity and surface-prep tolerance.

10

Limitations of MT

Material, geometry, orientation and subsurface-depth limitations of MT — and how to design around them.

11

MT Equipment, Accessories & Consumables — Practical Video

Walk-through of standard MT equipment: yokes, prods, stationary benches, accessories, magnetic medium and consumables used on the shop floor.

12

Electromagnetic Yoke Deadweight Check — Practical Video

Step-by-step deadweight verification of an electromagnetic yoke — setup, lifting test and pass/fail interpretation.

13

Prod-Type Equipment — Practical Video

Operating prod-type MT equipment safely — electrode placement, current settings, arc-strike prevention and indication scanning.

14

Stationary Equipment — Headshot Technique — Practical Video

Headshot (direct contact) technique on a stationary bench — clamping, magnetising current, bath application and inspection under UV light.

15

Automated Equipment — Practical Video

Automated MT lines — load/unload, multi-axis magnetisation, automatic bath application and operator role in indication verification.

16

Wet Bath Settling Test

Settling-test procedure for wet magnetic medium — pear-shaped centrifuge tube, settling time and acceptable particle-concentration range.

17

Final Magnetization Demo & Conclusion

Closing practical demonstration tying together magnetisation, indication detection and post-test demagnetisation — module conclusion.
